“We need the tonic of wildness… At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable. We can never have enough of nature.”– Henry David Thoreau
My photographer’s heart is full to the creative brim from this session… This incredibly lovely girl happens to have an equally beautiful and fabulous Mother, who wanted to give her daughter something unique for her fifteenth birthday. Rather than gifting Tatiana with a present wrapped up inside a box, she got creative and started thinking outside the box, and contacted me about creating a styled photoshoot for her! We started collaborating on what type of session would be fitting for this stunning girl… A girl who has the sweetest, kindest heart you can imagine, who has lived on two different continents, dipped her toes in multiple oceans, and tasted exotic dishes from around the world… We quickly came up with the idea of shooting outside Madrid, in the beautiful mountains around the city, because we wanted the overall feel to be that of a girl with a gypsy’s heart… A wanderer… A girl who likes to escape into the woods to dip her toes in a stream and find inspiration in a cozy and luxurious oasis…
We shopped for accessories, while Olga and Tatiana pulled together a fabulous wardrobe… We layered kilim rugs with sheepskin and as many exotic cushions as we could find, and then pulled her little escape together with soft netting… A bit of a 1970’s vibe was also a guiding force when it came to our overall inspiration. We wanted it to feel bohemian and free, but still a bit polished… Basically, it was my dream session!!!!
When it came to shooting the images, I was so inspired by the light streaming through the trees, the way it played peek-a-boo, changing every few minutes… We shot until the sun dipped below the surrounding mountains… When it came to editing the images, it just seemed natural to use Mastin Presets to give the impression of classic film… Their Portra 400 was used in Lightroom on the vast majority of the edits to give them the perfect color profile, then, I hand edited each image in Photoshop to polish! It was the ideal marriage of editing for this session! Photographer friends–If you haven’t looked into Mastin, I highly encourage it! Simple, clean, classic, but modern… I adore it.
Not only was this session full of inspiration, the best part was working with these two incredible ladies! Tatiana–May this new year be filled with adventure and excitement, beauty and joy… All my love!
